Recap on June and Early July

Apologies for not posting in quite a long time.

Since the last post in late May, MUCH has happened:

This past June, Hyperfest was at Summit Point in West Virginia. HSM's own Richard Hunter aka "Schoolboy", attended, running his red #9 Integra R in Honda Challenge. Richie, being no stranger to the track, was a major player in the battle in H2 with fellow drivers including Spencer Anderson and Erik Olson. With rain threatening to ruin the weekend on Saturday morning, Schoolboy drove the wheels off his car. Luckily, the sun stayed out.

During the races on Saturday and Sunday, Spencer and Erik both had amazing starts which made Schoolboy play catch up. The #9 HSM/Schoolboy Racing Integra R lacked a bit of straight line speed but under braking and in the corners, the car would gain much time.

"These new HAWK brake pads have made this car brake better than ever before!" Hunter said.

On Saturday, Richard Hunter finished 2nd in H2 class, just a half-second behind leader Erik Olson. On Sunday though, his hard driving paid off and Schoolboy received the victory by a massive 36 seconds. Unfortunately, both Spencer and Erik had their motors expire on Sunday, but this will not be the last of them this year!

Richard has also put his Integra R up for sale. This car is a known to be a big competitor in Honda Challenge and holds many track records. Running 1:01's at Lime Rock Park and a 1:25 flat at Summit, this car is no slouch. Building a car to this spec would cost you a small fortune, but this car is for sale for only $9,995 with spare parts included! The car is not perfect exterior-wise, but no race car is anyway! It has some "battle wounds", but nothing to keep you from beating the competition!

Luiz has since received his clutch from Quartermaster in late June and has had it installed.

Since Luiz has driven at Watkins Glen many times but never in his current #54 BMW, he stated "It was a whole another learning experience for me. This time, with a car that actually grips and stops like a race car." He previously has done track days in street cars there and such.

On July 11th and 12th, Luiz attended an Sports Car Driving Association (SCDA) track day at WGI. It was the first time on the new racing clutch but he soon got used to it.

"It's absolutely amazing this clutch! It's more like an on/off switch which makes it a bit of a pain when going slow, but once you are in the zone and at racing speeds, nothing feels better than this. Quick engagement, quick revs. It's great!" Luiz said.

On a late day in June, HSM's own drag racer Patrick (last name kept anonymous) brought his BMW E36 into the shop. Known in the past for running low-10's in a street-driven, rear-wheel drive Mazda MX-6, Patrick is no novice to the drag racing scene. His fully built E36 3.2L Turbo will be the next machine to tear up the 1320, yet it will look much like a factory 325.

"There's no need to have aero kits and a crazy, low ride height on a car that will launch harder than NASA's rockets haha. It's all about getting the power to the ground, and minimizing any wheelspin. That's the first thing people overlook. Power ISN'T everything in drag racing. It's pointless to have a car that will spin its tires half way down the strip. I won't be the guy making over 700 and change at the wheels, but I'll definitely be the one catching traction and not fixing broken parts every time I do a run." Patrick stated. He is pretty confident that on a conservative setup, the car should have no problems running mid-10's on slicks. We shall see! Stay tuned!
